  • 1 loaf French Bread day-old works best
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Sugar for pudding
  • 2 cups Milk whole milk preferred
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons Butter for cream sauce
For the Cream Sauce
  • 1 cup Sugar for sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray.
  2. Cut the day-old French bread into 1-2 inch cubes and place in a large mixing bowl.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard over the bread cubes, gently stir, and let soak for 20 minutes.
  5. Spread the soaked mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 50-60 minutes until golden.
  6. In a saucepan, whisk together sugar and flour over medium heat, then slowly add heavy cream until thickened.
  7. Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla to the sauce, then drizzle over baked bread pudding.
  8. Serve warm, optionally garnished with fresh fruit or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
