Preparation and Baking
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal.
- In a mixing bowl, combine melted unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract.
- Add in all-purpose flour and salt, stirring until a cohesive dough forms.
- Press the dough evenly into the prepared dish and prick the surface lightly with a fork to prevent bubbling.
- Bake the crust for 15-18 minutes or until the edges turn light golden brown.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the large eggs, granulated sugar, cornstarch, fresh orange juice, grated orange zest, and almond extract until smooth.
- Carefully pour the orange filling over the warm crust and bake for an additional 20-22 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the oven and allow the orange bars to cool at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Refrigerate the bars for at least 2 hours to fully set.
- Dust with powdered sugar before slicing into squares.
