  • 1 cup Milk or Half-and-Half; almond or oat milk for dairy-free
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon or nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar or maple syrup for low-sugar alternative
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
For Cooking
  • 2 tablespoons Butter or coconut oil
Toppings Ideas
  • 1 cup Fresh Berries
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • Skillet
  • toothpick
  • whisk

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until smooth, about 1 minute.
  2. Carefully slice each King’s Hawaiian roll in half without cutting all the way through, creating a pocket for the custard. Poke a few holes in the bottom of each roll with a toothpick.
  3. Dip each roll into the custard mixture, soaking for about 30 seconds on each side.
  4. Place a skillet over medium heat and add about 2 tablespoons of butter, allowing it to melt and coat the bottom.
  5. Place the soaked rolls cut side down in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Flip and brown the other side, adding more butter if needed.
  6. Remove from the skillet and serve immediately, topped with powdered sugar, fresh berries, or maple syrup.
