  • 1 cup granulated sugar can substitute with coconut sugar

  • 1 cup heavy cream or coconut cream for dairy-free
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or clear vanilla for a whiter frosting
For the Cake Layers
  • 1 box white cake mix or made-from-scratch recipe
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder optional
  • as needed red gel food coloring for vibrant layers
  • as needed blue gel food coloring for vibrant layers
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar adjust for preferred sweetness
  • as needed milk or heavy cream can substitute with coconut milk

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, blend cream cheese with granulated sugar, flour, eggs, sour cream, heavy cream, and vanilla extract using an electric mixer until smooth.
  2. Pour the cheesecake mixture into a greased springform pan and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare the cake batter according to package instructions, adding cocoa powder to half the batter. Color the remaining batter red and blue.
  4. Pour the batters into three prepared 9-inch cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, then cool in the pans for 10 minutes.
  5. Cool the cake layers completely, then wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for about 30 minutes.
  6. Assemble the cake starting with a red layer, then the cheesecake layer, followed by a white cake layer and a blue cake layer.
  7. Beat together the softened butter and powdered sugar, adding milk and vanilla extract for frosting the cake.
  8. Frost the assembled cake and optionally decorate with festive toppings.
