Ingredients

For the Burger Patties
  • 1 lb Ground Beef (85/15) Provides rich flavor and juiciness; the higher fat content is key for a moist burger.
  • 1 tbsp Seasoning Salt (Freddy's or Lawry's) Adds savory depth; feel free to substitute with regular salt mixed with garlic powder for a simple touch.
  • 1 medium Sweet Onion Enhances natural sweetness; can be swapped with green onions or yellow onions if on hand.
For the Sautéed Toppings
  • 8 oz Mushrooms Brings a lovely umami flavor; cremini or portobello works beautifully.
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil Ideal for sautéing and adds richness; can replace it with vegetable oil or butter.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Infuses additional savoriness; substitute with fresh garlic for a vibrant kick.
For the Burger Fixings
  • 4 slices White Cheddar Cheese Melts perfectly and lends creaminess; American or traditional cheddar is also great.
  • 4 pieces Potato Buns Soft, sweet, and perfect for holding your burger; whole wheat or gluten-free options work well.
  • 2 tbsp A1 Sauce Adds a delightful tang; BBQ sauce can be used for a different flavor.
  • 2 tbsp Duke’s Mayonnaise Creates a creamy sauce base; substitute with any mayonnaise or vegan option.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Copycat Freddy's Burger
  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine A1 sauce, mayonnaise, and garlic powder. Stir until smooth and refrigerate while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced sweet onion and diced mushrooms, sauté for 4-6 minutes until caramelized.
  3. Take about one pound of ground beef and divide it into four equal portions, shaping each into a loose ¼ lb patty.
  4. Preheat a griddle over high heat. Place burger patties on the griddle, sprinkle with seasoning salt, and smash the edges down.
  5. Turn the burger patties after 3-4 minutes when browned. Add more seasoning salt and top each with cheddar cheese. Cover to melt.
  6. Lightly toast the potato buns on the griddle for about 1 minute until golden brown.
  7. Assemble burgers with two patties on each bun, topped with sautéed ingredients and A1 sauce, then add the top bun.
