Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare four 8-inch cake pans by greasing them and lining with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: warm water, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and fold until fully combined. Divide the batter into the prepared pans.
- Bake the layers for 22-25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool in pans for 10 minutes.
- Transfer the cake layers to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the caramel, melt sugar in a saucepan until golden, mix in butter and cream, stirring continuously. Cool slightly.
- Beat together the butter and peanut butter for the frosting, then mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream until smooth.
- Assemble the cake starting with a chocolate layer, adding frosting and caramel, repeat until all layers are stacked.
- Chill the assembled cake for 15 minutes and frost the top and sides with remaining peanut butter frosting.
- To make ganache, heat cream and stir in chocolate chips until smooth. Cool then drizzle over the cake.
- Drizzle caramel over the top and decorate with peanuts and mini Snickers bars.
