Ingredients

For the Base
  • 2 cups Water Essential liquid base. No substitutions needed.
  • 3/4 cup Sugar (or Granulated Erythritol/Xylitol) Provides sweetness; substitute with coconut sugar for lower-calorie option.
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa Powder Key flavor component; Dutch process gives a smoother taste but feel free to use regular cocoa if preferred.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor; essential and should not be omitted.
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Chocolate Chips/Finely Chopped Chocolate Adds creaminess and richness; can be omitted for a simpler sorbet.
  • 2 tablespoons Vodka or Liqueur Helps prevent the sorbet from freezing too hard; leave out for alcohol-free.
  • 1 teaspoon Instant Coffee/Pure Peppermint/Vanilla Extract Adds depth of flavor; substitute with favorite flavors for a unique twist.

Equipment

  • Ice Cream Maker

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the ice cream maker by freezing the bowl overnight according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine half of the water and sugar over medium-high heat, stirring continuously until the sugar completely dissolves, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Whisk in cocoa powder and salt, bring to a gentle boil while stirring for about 30 seconds.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in optional ingredients until fully melted and combined.
  5. Stir in remaining water and any flavor extracts, cool to room temperature before chilling in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
  6. Cover and chill the mixture for 1-2 hours in the refrigerator.
  7. Pour the chilled mixture into the pre-frozen ice cream maker and churn according to instructions for 20-30 minutes.
  8. Enjoy immediately for a soft serve texture or freeze for a firmer sorbet.
