Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel, core, and chop the apples. Melt butter in a saucepan, add sugar and lemon rind, cook for 5-7 minutes, then transfer to a baking dish.
  3. In another saucepan, melt remaining butter, add flour/cornflour while whisking to form a roux. Gradually pour in milk, whisk until thickened for about 5-8 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat, let cool, then whisk in egg yolks and vanilla until well combined.
  5. Pour custard over apples in baking dish. Mix sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over custard.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
