- Spread softened unsalted butter generously on one side of each slice of sourdough bread to create a golden crust.
- Layer fresh mozzarella, tomato slices, basil leaves, and pesto on the unbuttered side of two slices. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Top with remaining slices of sourdough bread, buttered side out, and gently press down.
