Step-by-Step Instructions for Cheesy French Dip Sliders
  1. In a large skillet, melt ½ cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, allow it to slightly foam.
  2. Add 1 medium onion, thinly sliced, to the skillet and sauté for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Stir in 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme, 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon of black pepper. Cook for another minute and remove from heat.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Slice the 12 sweet rolls horizontally to create tops and bottoms. Lay the bottom halves in a greased baking dish.
  6. Top the bottom halves with 5 slices of provolone cheese followed by 14 ounces of sliced deli roast beef, then spread the onion mixture, and finish with the remaining provolone cheese.
  7. Place the tops of the sweet rolls back over the assembled ingredients and press gently.
  8. Combine the remaining melted butter with 1.5 tablespoons of dried onion soup mix. Brush this mixture over the tops of the rolls.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes until golden and crispy.
  10. Prepare the au jus according to the packet instructions using 3 cups of water.
  11. Let the sliders sit for a few minutes before serving with au jus for dipping, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
